On Friday, I was able to attend both of the girls' Valentine parties. Emma's consisted of a pizza lunch, complete with ice cream and a frosted cookie. They played a few games, made a craft and exchanged Valentine's. It was a great, organized party. True to her current passions, Emma handed out Star Wars valentines to everyone.
Emma and I left her party and went straight to Abby's party. There has always been a question of whether younger siblings are allowed at class parties, some say it's discouraged, but I brought her along anyway. Emma was the only younger sibling there, but thankfully, she behaved very well other than asking me if it was time to leave several times. Abby's class made a craft, played Valentine Bingo, and stacked conversation hearts.
The end of the party consisted of a snack and several boys in her class who decided to sing Bon Jovi, "Livin' on a Prayer." Abby was laughing like crazy (as was the rest of the class), even though she had no clue what the song was that they were singing (we tend to shelter our children).
The teacher then happily announced that anyone wishing to sign out their children (since it was 2:30 with a normal 3:00 dismissal) was more than welcome to. So, we were able to go home and spend some quality time together - fun!
We opted to stay home on Valentine's Evening after a great basketball game. We made pink, heart shaped pancakes and had chocolate covered strawberries. It was a great Valentine's Day!
